Three steps into Mediations
The Camouflash, is an exhibition topic, put forward by Mariusz Soltysik. The exhibition was organised by PATIO Art Centre in October 2007 under the title of The Camouflash International Artist's Meeting. 20 artists from Europe, The USA and Asia took part in it. The project, through the idea of meeting and working at the venue, may be related to the international Lodz socio-artistic event 'Construction in Process' initiated by Ryszard Wasko.
The neologism created by Mariusz Soltysik encouraged a discussion on the topic of a human; an artist condition in the contemporary world. The topic and the exhibition formula turned out to be so current and open that, to our surprise, CamouFlash has had its further continuation.
In the centre of Dresden, between 29 August and 17 September 2008, The CamouFlash Disappearing in the Art had its place. The conceptual author and organiser of Disappearing in the Art (the subtitle of the exhibition) is UNOACTU group which gathers artists, curators and philosophers. In harmony with the assumptions behind the first edition, Anja Tabitha Rudolph, German curator, invited 20 new artist to participate in Dresden exhibition.
Enriched by the experiences of Dresden event, we prepared the third edition of the project - CamouFLASHed Mediations. The project allows us to 'participate in the creation of a dialogue among cultures, arts and means of expression' and by doing that we contribute to the month of mediations accompanying Mediations Biennial. We have invited new curators and artists to create a new value. At the exhibition, except for the Dresden artworks by Martin Brazina, Henrik Busch, Carlos Alberto Carrilho, Disorientalism, Tobias Hantmann, Tatsuya Higuchi, Markus Huemer, Allan Hughes, Pia Müller, Arianne Olthaar, Susana Pedrosa, REINIGUNGSGESELLSCHAFT, Andreas Sachsenmaier, Aki Tarr, there will also be presented Luxembourg artists' works selected by Ronald Dofing: Patricia Lippert, Christian Aschman and Inner Spaces: Soazic Guezennec, Shiga Fujishiri i Sven Giesman, Stephen Cornford i Cristina Maldonado.
The element which binds all three editions, apart from the topic, is the alternative presentation venue - an abandoned shop and offices in Lodz, a building shell of future offices in Dresden, or an Old Printing House building in Poznan. These are the spaces which determine the character of an exhibition, while at the same time they seem to highlight the topic of the exhibition – The CamouFlash.
